I've finished of a traditionally drawn piece of concept work for Shay,
sporting a pretty cool "Leafblade" (notice the acorn growing on the branch/hilt)
I was really happy with how the petal colours came out,
and overall happy with the tribal/natural theme going on!

the grass is greener!
here's an update, i've finished off a flat tiling grass segment,
i've also tested it within a very rough game engine to check it tiled correcly

one, two, Tree!
today i've started to sketch up some of the floral for the background, there are 3 total tree varients (each will also be flipped horizontally when finished for a total of 6 diffrent trees to scatter throughout the level)
Later i will also create some destroyed and uprooted trees,
as the player gets further through the level they will notice more and more uprooted trees.
Whos the Boss!
Here's a quick sketch of the final boss of the level.
"Behemoth" I plan him to be a stationary boss.
if everything goes to plan his mouth will slowly open and close (revealing a weak spot at the back which the player must attack, by getting inside and attacking and getting out before the mouth closes!
The front-right leg will periodically raise up and stomp down, and then remain still for afew moments
(this is when the player can use the foot as a platform to reach the mouth.)
Yes he's gonna be BIG!

Bombot!
The Bombbot is finished!
it'll be a small robot (a skull shaped/sized chassis attached to a wheel) with a stick of dynamite sticking out of the top, when it charges the player the dynamite fuse will light, i've still got to descide if the lit fuse will be purely cosmetic or actually initiate a detonation timer on the bombbot.

The Level!
The level i plan to make for my level will be a forest based level, it will feature several types of enemies and a large boss sized enemy at the end.
Enemies:
Harvest Bot MKII, these will be placed as a less common enemy throughout the level.
animations required will be: walking, , defeated, stopped and lift (special hold attack)
Bomb bot, these will be small explosive robots that will detect the player from a long range and then attempt to crash into the player for an explosive suicide, the player will need to defeat them fast!
they will be the common enemy scattered throughout the map.
animations required will be: moving, stopped and exploding/defeated
The final boss will be a large immobile construct called "Behemoth", i'll go into more detail later on.

With Machine Minds! and Machine Hearts!
Here is the first scribble of the bot i see as being the most common, their purpose would use the giant gripping arm to tear up trees to take back to the factory.
they stand 9 ft tall and move fairly slow, however if you get too close they can spring their gripping arm forwards to hit or grab!
This is the first scribbling, more detailed drawings will follow!

Steam Powered Robots!
Today i'll work on concept art for the steam powered constructs that will be the enemy in the game,
they'll be based on old industrial steam engines with a steam punk twist thrown in!
i'm looking forward to seeing how he turns out!

One small step for man! One coloured piece of concept for Davey!
I have taken the last piece of concept art and editted it some more,
making the hair shorter,
added eyebrows which may or may not stay!
edited the sword to look more stylish
added jewelry to her arms
Made the dress longer and the bottom bit has be made to look like a budding flower.
The Colour scheme is all likely to change!

Second Concept to the right and straight on until morning!
After showing a friend the first concept,
they suggested that i try a Tinkerbell styled dress,
so here it is!
I added a headband and also changed the boots
from the first concept to ankle wraps.
Overall i think i prefer this design to the original.
Very rough first concept!

I was getting inspiration from several Amazonian images,
also note i descided my version of the Fay won't have wings,
they will look very elvish in appearance, shay will be 5ft tall.
She will probably end up with more armor before i've finished the final concept!
it's tricky trying to get the lightly armored forest-dweller look,
without making her look like a jungle cheerleader!
I imagine the boots being made of some form of twine, and the clothing a mix of wood, twine and leaves.
I like the hair, but it may change.
The Cuirass will change completely, maybe Fur?
The Belt will change completely, perhaps twine?
I think the Skirt will become much more leafy.
Or perhaps change completely.

So what about the gameplay?
The playable character Shay will use a blade swipe attack so the combat will be upclose and personal!
The Enemies will have varying amounts of health but currently i imagine having to hit them 3-5 times to defeat them.
I'm also excited to try and implement (if time allows) a "held" feature where some enemies will have the ability to perform special grappling moves and the player will need to rapidly push a button to break the grapple (losing health points for each second the grapple is active)
This would keep combat exciting, having to get close to attack with the blade, but back away to avoid the hold.

A Fairy Tale! (backstory)
This is the story of Shay Le Fay...
Shay is the unsung heroine of our adventure.
The story will be set in a fictional Delamere Forest, nearly 100 years ago, Fairies (or Fay as they'll be called) rule the woodland, and the peace between Humans and the Fay is coming to a fierce end.
The Industrial Revolution has made the humans greedy, Man-made constructs of Metal, Steam and Fire ravage through the forest, harvesting trees for lumber.
The Fay Council call a meeting to ponder how to stop the destruction from spreading further throughout their forest, until it is decided that one of the Fay must undertake a perilous quest out of the forest, to destroy the construct factory, in order to cull the humans plans.
Shay is that hero, daughter of the Fay King, Shay has grown up into a life of hunting, tracking and combat training, Shay is the most skilled blade fighter the Fay have seen in centuries...
